Stories are legion about mistakes and excesses perpetrated the Transportation Security Administration, which is in charge of protecting airports from terrorism. The Washington Post reports.
Several other airports are seriously considering the change, including the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees Dulles International and Reagan National airports.
“At issue, airport managers and security experts say, is the unwieldy size and bureaucracy of the federal aviation security system,” The Post reports. “Private firms may be able to do the job more efficiently and with a personal touch, they argue.” The TSA makes the final decision on whether airports can switch to private overseers.
