Zendaya, the singer, has teamed up with toymaker Mattel to debut her very own Barbie doll, which is modeled with the signature dreadlock-and-gown look she showed off on red carpet at the Oscars this year.
The first pictures of the doll came via social media.

Zendaya reported that she was approached by Mattel after Giuliana Rancic of E!'s "Fashion Police" joked after the Academy Awards that the singer's dreadlocks probably smelled like "patchouli oil" or "weed."
"My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough," Zendaya responded at the time.
In an interview with Yahoo this month, Zendaya explained what the new Barbie doll means to her.
"When I was little, I didn't have one that looked like me, so I couldn't connect with her in that way," she said. "But getting to visit the Mattel offices and see Barbie’s vision for the future . . . I was able to see how they plan to diversify, broadening the horizons and the image of Barbie, and make it more, you know, open. I left the office feeling it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of."
After posting pictures of the new doll, Zendaya was inundated with positive notes from fans, and even drew the attention of fellow musician Nicki Minaj.
