Zeljko Causevic Arrested for Bomb Scare at Jacksonville Airport

Zeljko Causevic was arrested Tuesday for an alleged bomb scare that forced the evacuation of Jacksonville International Airport.

According to the arrest report, the 39-year-old Bosnian-born Causevic reportedly approached a Transportation Security Administration agent and pointed to a camouflage backpack and told the screener, "I got a bomb in here."

Causevic then told the agent it was "supposed to be a bomb, but it's not," Reuters reported.

Inside the backpack, authorities found a cell phone, batteries, a luggage scale, and a remote control that he allegedly referred to as a "detonator."

Causevic was charged with one count of making a false report as well as one count of manufacturing, possessing, selling or delivering a "hoax bomb," according to Jacksonville Aviation Authority spokesman Michael Stewart, CNN reported.

Causevic was booked into jail early Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

Several hours after the evacuation was ordered, authorities said the area was clear.

"Our bomb squad did find a device that needed to be rendered safe. They're in the process of doing that. They removed it from the area," Shannon Hartley, spokesman for the Jacksonville County Sheriff's Office, told reporters.

Hartley declined to elaborate on whether the device was an explosive, telling reporters he was not sure he "could characterize it that way at this point in time," Reuters reported.

In addition to the evacuation, several incoming flights were diverted from the airport.

"We erred on the side of caution in terms of doing whatever's necessary to make sure that everybody is safe," Stewart said.

A second individual was arrested in the airport's garage following the bomb hoax, according to officials. He is not connected to Causevic, the AP reported.

An employee at Swift Trucking Co., Causevic has been a resident of Jacksonville for 15 years and is a U.S. citizen, according to the arrest report.

Causevic is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23. A judge has set his bond at more than $1 million.
