Aaron Judge is one of the “scariest” people you’ll see – if you were to ask retired MLB star David Ortiz, who is in awe of the 6-foot-7 outfielder for the New York Yankees.
It’s not every day that you come across a young MLB player with that kind of height, weighing in at over 280 pounds, but Judge is an exception and Ortiz wasn’t afraid to let the 25-year-old know just how much of a fan he is of him, according to the New York Post.
“Look at Judge,” Ortiz said Monday night at a fundraiser for CC Sabathia’s PitCChIn Foundation as Judge stood nearby. “Look at him. That’s scary, man. That’s the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. A guy that big that can hit like that, that’s special.”
Ortiz, who played 20 seasons in the MLB and was a designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox, said he believes the best is yet to come for Judge, even though he’s become quite the fan favorite among Yankees fans already.
“To be honest with you, with the strike zone for a guy his size, I believe even though he’s so good, he’s gonna get better,” Ortiz said. “When you’re that tall, the strike zone is bigger. And then you watch him hit, and he doesn’t chase bad pitches. That’s special. God bless him. He’s fun to watch. What a beast.”
Judge was flattered by Ortiz’s remarks about how special of a baseball specimen he is and will be moving forward.
“That was the first time I met him,” Judge said, according to New Jersey Online. “That’s just David’s personality, man. Everybody’s a friend. He welcomes everybody. It’s cool to finally meet him and get a chance to hang out with him for a little bit.”
Sabathia, a pitcher for the Yankees who, at one point, became the highest-paid pitcher in MLB history, offered some remarks of his own about his teammate.
“Judge has been MVP caliber,” Sabathia said.
Judge is currently leading the major league with 18 home runs with a 41 RBI and a .324 batting average in just 52 games.
