The "world saddest" polar bear named Pizza and living in a cramped aquarium at a Chinese shopping center has been offered a new home in a wildlife park in England.

Pizza has been dubbed "world's saddest" during its stay at the Grandview Aquarium in Guangzhou, according to The Guardian, but now animal welfare charity Animals Asia has said the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster has offered to give Pizza a home.

The charity complained in January that the aquarium had become a "prison" for the animals living there and called for its closing.

"Two polar-brown bear hybrids, six young beluga whales and five walrus calves are among the animals housed in horrifying conditions in a Chinese mall in Guangzhou," it said. "The poor state of the animals and limited space has already come under fire from Chinese netizens, with a WeChat post on the shocking situation going viral."

The English wildlife park has a polar bear habitat which has four animals, noted the BBC News. The Project Polar habitat includes a research and conservation program.

"We would be delighted to see Pizza end up at Yorkshire Wildlife Park," Animals Asia's welfare director Dave Neale told BBC News. "There can be a happy ending. Pizza would not only enjoy incredible facilities, he would also be part of a community of bears."

China's People's Daily Online reported in July that visitors to the aquarium had become concerned about the polar bear's health. The aquarium's deputy manager Li Chengtang told the People's Daily that China does not have regulations about the polar bear's living space but it spends "tens of thousands of yuan on Pizza's food, and provides the bear with advanced medical care."

A Grandview spokesman told CNN the aquarium had not received the British zoo's offer.

Yorkshire's offer is contingent on Grandview agreeing not to replace Pizza with another polar bear or any similar-sized animal.
