An 82-year-old woman was arrested at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport Wednesday morning after she tussled with a TSA agent, allegedly punching him in the arm.
As the woman was going through security at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, the agent reportedly removed a bottle of hand lotion from her bag and told her she couldn’t bring it on the plane because it was too big, according to The Wichita Eagle. She allegedly became verbally abusive with the officer and approached his work area, punching him in the arm before she was detained by another officer.
As the incident progressed, the woman ignored repeated instructions to go back to the public area. She was arrested, photographed and fingerprinted, then released after about two hours without bond at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, the Eagle reported.
"She was very shaken, embarrassed, and I think the simplest description would be overwhelmed," said Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett, Fox News reported.
She was traveling with her husband, returning home to Texas after a family reunion. She and her husband were driven back to the airport by the airline and took a later flight home. The woman was cited for misdemeanor battery, but may not face charges if the city and TSA decide not to press any, Fox News reported.
"The city is the only prosecutorial authority with a possible case at this point," Bennett said to the Eagle.
