An Australian woman shot by Minneapolis police on Saturday had called 911 to report a disturbance near her home.

Justine Ruszczyk, who was using the last name Damond, was described as a spiritual healer who led meditation workshops in the local community, NBC News reported. She was an Australia native living in Minneapolis with her fiance.

It is unclear what occurred prior to and during the shooting because the officers’ body cameras and their vehicle’s dashboard camera were turned off when the event occurred.

Damond's stepson posted a Facebook Live video demanding answers about why a police officer shot her. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting, including whether any video footage exists and why officers’ cameras were not operating, ABC News reported.

An autopsy will be conducted and results will be released after family notification is completed, ABC reported.

More than 300 people attended a vigil Sunday evening near the shooting site, ABC reported. Damond was supposed to get married next month, according to friends and family members.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges called the shooting a “tragedy” and said she was “sad and disturbed.”

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was providing consular assistance to Damond’s family members, and a statement was released by the family through the agency asking for privacy and time to understand what took place when the shooting occurred, ABC reported.

Twitter followers couldn’t understand how police could shoot her.
