A woman who pulled 18 half-inch worms from her left eye has been added to the list of gross worm stories that have already come to light in the first two months of the year.

Here are four gross worm stories that have made the news in 2018 so far.

Eye worms

According to Oregon Health & Science University, Abby Beckley of Oregon is thought to be the first human ever to contract an infection of Thelazia gulosa — that is eye worms spread by flies between cows. Beckley, who contracted the eye worms when she was 26 but is now 28, pulled 14 half-inch worms from her eye after feeling an irritation and seeing something strange when she looked closely at her eye in the mirror. She likely contracted the infection while horseback riding and fishing.

Foot worms

Canadian couple Katie Stephens and Eddie Zytner came home from their tropical vacation to the Dominican Republic with hookworms in their feet after walking barefoot on the beach. The infection was overlooked by several doctors and caused bumps and skin damage on their feet that may take months to heal.

Pain-in-the-butt worms

An unnamed couple similarly reported they contracted hookworms on their posteriors from sitting on the beach while on vacation on the Caribbean island of Martinique. Antibiotics, steroids, and antifungal treatments did not help the infection, which was not diagnosed until the couple returned home from vacation, and the couple ended up with hypersensitivity pneumonitis, possibly from the worms getting into their lungs, before they recovered from the ordeal, The Sun reported.

Intestinal worms

A California man brought a tapeworm wrapped around a toilet paper roll to the emergency room where Dr. Kenny Bahn was treating patients after eating sashimi sushi made with Alaskan salmon, according to the podcast “This Won’t Hurt a Bit.”
