William Phipps, best known as the original voice of Prince Charming in Disney's "Cinderella," has died at age 96 from lung cancer complications, Variety reported.

The prolific actor who appeared in over 200 film and television productions was at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica when he died Friday.

His friend and author Tom Weaver confirmed the news, noting that Phipps had been battling lung cancer, which was exasperated by pneumonia.

Born in Vincennes, Indiana, Phipps moved to California in 1941 and enrolled in the Actors Lab in 1945, having served in the Navy during World War II, Deadline noted.

Phipps made a career debut into film with the 1947 thriller "Crossfire," which went on to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

He carved his success with roles in various science fictions films released in the 1950s and solidified his career with the voice-over stint as Prince Charming in Walt Disney's animated "Cinderella."

Phipps decided to take a break from the Hollywood life in 1960 but he made a return in 1976 to play Theodore Roosevelt in the ABC miniseries "Eleanor and Franklin," which earned 11 Emmy Awards, The Hollwood Reporter said.

The actor was married twice but had no children, according to Screen Rant.

His first wife died in a car crash and his second marriage ended in divorce.

He never remarried and chose to spend his final years in Malibu, where he was often seen out and about, walking his dog.
