The weekend box office was dominated by “Rampage,” with the Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson led video-game adaption from New Line rocking the international front to earn $114.1 million in 61 territories while making a domestic debut with $34.5 million from 4,101 screens, Variety reported.

Critics were divided on “Rampage,” giving it a 50 percent average Rotten Tomatoes score as of Monday, but the film was a hit among moviegoers and a strong turnout at Saturday matinee screenings saw it edge Paramount’s horror film “A Quiet Place” out of the top spot on this weekend’s charts.

With a $120 million budget, “Rampage” has just two weeks to recoup its costs before Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” wins audiences over, box office analysts told The Wrap.

This hasn’t stopped the movie from becoming the highest rated video-game movie on Rotten Tomatoes, according to IndieWire.

“Tomb Raider” previously held the title but “Rampage” toppled that record this weekend – a feat which Johnson acknowledged on social media.

“It seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, “A Quiet Place” remains the top pick when it comes to horror movies, earning a 10-day gross total of $100 million against a $17 million budget, The Wrap said.

Coming in at third was Universal/Blumhouse’s “Truth Or Dare,” which made $19 million in its opening weekend from 3,029 locations, beating pre-weekend projections of a $12 to 15 million start and offsetting its $3.5 million production budget.
