A woman who crashed a Virginia wedding strolled over to a table of gifts for the newlyweds and reportedly made off with an unknown number of unopened envelops, WTKR-TV reported.

Police in Virginia Beach believe the uninvited woman made her way up to the second floor of the Hilton Garden Inn on May 6 while Rusty Waddell and his new wife Auttumn Griffiths Waddell were at their wedding reception.

The woman reportedly took gift envelopes off the table and left the hotel, police told WTKR-TV.

The bride's mother saw the unknown woman at the reception and took a picture of her. She shared the photo with other guests and then told hotel staff. The woman was gone by the time police arrived.

"It's pretty wild on a person-to-person level," Rusty Waddell told WTRK-TV. "I don't understand how you could do that, especially at a wedding."

Waddell said the couple would be asking guests about their gifts to assess what else had been taken.

"I think embarrassing is the word I would use," Waddell said. "It's always hard to reach out to someone and ask them what gift they brought you."

"We'll of course have the good memories from the party and hanging out with our friends and all that, but it's all going to lead down to the end of the night having to think back to the end of the wedding and someone stealing from us," Waddell added.

The practice isn't new, of course. There's even a "Wedding Crashers" movie.

In January, William A. Dickinson, 25, was charged in Eau Claire County Court in Wisconsin on a felony count of physical abuse of a child and two misdemeanor charges of fourth degree sexual assault after crashing a wedding party there, according to the LaCrosse Tribune.

Dickinson reportedly befriended a wedding guest at a hotel bar and then at the reception is alleged to have touched an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl in an inappropriate manner.
