Wedding at 32,000 Feet: Southwest Hosts First-Ever Inflight Nuptials

A Kentucky couple was married 32,000 feet in the air Sunday on a Southwest Airlines flight filled with family, friends, and people who just happened to be on board.

"I, Dottie, choose you, Keith, to be my husband in front of our friends, our family, and random but very special guests," USA Today quoted Dottie Coven as she crowded with her groom, Keith Stewart, and a minister in front of the Boeing 737 flying six miles above Arkansas.

Coven danced down the aisle shortly after a 4-year-old flower girl, dressed in bright blue and yellow, distributed packages of peanuts, the newspaper said. Even the minister got into the spirit of the event, telling the 141 passengers on board, "If anyone can show just cause why they may not be lawfully joined together, let them push their flight attendant call button now."

Coven and Stewart travel so much in their jobs that that they were able to use more than a million rewards points to pay for most of the 30 tickets on the flight from Nashville to Dallas for their loved ones to witness the wedding.

On its Facebook page, Southwest Airlines invited people to offer their congratulations to Coven and Stewart for the company’s "first-ever inflight customer wedding." The company also put forward the hashtag #nonstoplove for wedding posts.

"Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Keith Stewart! They just landed at Love Field a short time ago! Marriott Hotels & Resorts will be taking it from here to give 'em an unforgettable honeymoon!" the airline posted, along with a photo of the newlyweds kissing at the Love Field terminal.
