Sen. Brown, Elizabeth Warren Agree to Mass. Debates

Wednesday, 06 June 2012 09:17 AM EDT

Democrat Elizabeth Warren has finally agreed to debate incumbent Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown in at least two televised face-offs to be held at local stations in Boston and Springfield.

Warren made the announcement in a statement Tuesday, marking the first time she has agreed definitively to a particular debate, the Boston Globe noted. She also said she would participate in up to four televised debates.

For his part, Brown said he was on board for the televised debates as well and also urged Warren to join him at two additional radio events.

According to the Globe, the debate agreement marked the end of a two-day debate tussle between the campaigns to come up with some kind of schedule between now and the November election.

“It is of paramount importance that the people of Massachusetts be able to hear from both candidates for U.S. Senate,” Warren campaign manager Mindy Myers said in a statement.
“Televised debates will allow voters across the state to hear about the issues from both candidates and see the clear contrast between them.”

Brown campaign manager Jim Barnett said in a statement that Brown still hopes Warren will join him in upcoming radio forums, but plans to “be there in-studio with or without her.”
