A London nursery worker was attacked on Wanstead High Street on Wednesday morning while walking to work, and the three attackers who kicked and slashed her reportedly chanted, "Allah will get you."
The victim, a woman in her 30s named Katie, was stabbed in the arm from behind by assailants she described as "Asian girls," according to the Daily Mail. The girls ran away when a man came to the victim’s rescue and walked her to her work.
The victim reportedly needed stitches and had several cracked ribs. She was taken to the hospital and was very shaken up, but is doing well and was expected to be discharged later on Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported.
The incident isn't being treated as a terrorist incident, but is being investigated. No arrests have been made, the BBC reported. The police said in a statement that the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command was notified about the attack but is not currently investigating.
The nursery boss, Karrien Stevens, said that the attack had nothing to do with the nursery where the victim works, Diamond Nursery in the Hermon Hill section of London, according to the Daily Mail.
The attack was done with a Stanley knife and seemed to have no apparent motive.
"When she got to work we couldn’t believe it and called the police straight away. It’s terrible, I’m absolutely horrified," Stevens told the Daily Mail. "You don’t expect something like this to happen on your doorstep."
Twitter users wondered if the police and media were covering up the terrorist nature of the attack.
