For years "WandaVision" star Elizabeth Olsen's mother has been calling her by the wrong name, the star revealed during an appearance on Wednesday's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Olsen's mother, Jarnette Olsen, only recently learned that the character’s name is the Scarlet Witch after years of calling her the Red Witch.
The Scarlet Witch is an iconic Marvel Comics character and is the star of Wanda Vision, which is a huge hit for Disney’s streaming service.
"My mom just told me the other day that she's been calling me the 'Red Witch' for the last —she said four years, but I think I've been doing this for like six or seven," Elizabeth said, via People. "And she just learned that I was called the Scarlet Witch last week," the star continued. "She was like, 'Why didn't you ever correct me?' And I just told her, 'I just thought you were making a joke. I didn't know that's what you thought my name was!'"
Elizabeth made her debut in 2014 as the Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff, in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." She last played the character in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" bur reprised the role in the new Marvel series, "WandaVision," which depicts Wanda and her Avenger boyfriend, Vision, as a suburban married couple.
"They are just trying to fit in," Elizabeth said in a January interview with Variety. "They're trying to not be found out by their neighbors that they're super-powered beings."
Olsen’s performance on the show has been widely lauded.
