Walmart's 25 hottest holiday toys (yes, the Christmas holidays) include a wide range of gifts from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Remote Control Skateboarding Mikey to a Disney Princess carriage.

Walmart officials said in a statement that the list was selected by children 18 months to 12 years and about a quarter of the products will be sold exclusively by the company. Walmart also announced the start of its layaway program, which opened Friday.

"Santa may know who is naughty and nice, but we know what's on their list," Anne Marie Kehoe, vice president of toys at Walmart U.S., said in a company statement. "Santa's workshop is hard to compete with, but we are confident our assortment hits the mark with kids of all ages."

"We have playsets, ridealongs, licensed merchandise, even toys that fly. Our customers can count on us to bring the coolest toys at everyday low prices, online and in stores, and enough of them for even the last shopper of the season to take home something that is going to put a smile on a child’s face," Kehoe continued.

Walmart tried to cover all the bases with its toy selections. For business-minded kids, there is the My Life As a Food Truck toy; for the caregiving child, there is the Little Live Pets Puppy; and for the superhero kid, there is the Batcave from "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and two offerings from the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie.

NPD Group estimated, according to Fortune magazine, that, in the first half of 2016, toy industry revenues jumped 7.5 percent, continuing the strong momentum of 2015, when U.S. toy sales topped predictions, increasing 6.7 percent to $19.4 billion.

Certified financial planner Ed Gjertsen II told USA Today that Walmart's layaway offers a disciplined way for customers to buy toys over time and have them paid off by Christmas.

"Layaways allow consumers to stay within their spending plans as these types of purchases involve a lot more thinking over impulse buys,'' Gjertsen said. "What’s important for those considering layaways is to check what kind of fees may be involved, including service fees, cancellation fees or restocking fees, among others. It’s great to be disciplined regarding your spending, but make sure you understand the total costs.''
