Walmart Glitch Leads to Fantastic Bargains on Its Website

By    |   Thursday, 07 November 2013 09:47 AM

Walmart, known as a place where customers can find bargains, was giving out some whoppers temporarily because of a technical glitch on its Walmart.com website on Wednesday.

Walmart spokesman Ravi Jariwala told Reuters that the company would not honor the mistaken prices, but customers will be offered a $10 gift card for their inconvenience. He said the problem was fixed shortly after they were notified about it Wednesday afternoon.

"Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they'll be refunded in full," Jariwala told Reuters in an e-mail.

The broken Walmart website listed treadmills, which normally cost several hundred dollars, at $33.16 and LCD computer monitors for $9, according to Reuters. The Los Angeles Times reported that some products were more than 90 percent off their list price, with televisions and computer monitors going for $8 and video games for $18.

News about the snafu, spread quickly on the internet, the Times reported.

It's not the first time Walmart has fallen prey to a computer glitch. On Wednesday, police in Louisiana were struggling to file charges against people who took advantage of an EBT system glitch to take hundreds of dollars of groceries for an area Walmart in October, reported KSLA-TV.

The television station reported that the computer outage allowed Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) purchases to be made on EBT cards in three north Louisiana Wal-Mart stores, even though they were not showing limits for two hours.

Many police officers have been reviewing videotape from the stores trying to identify those who have taken advantage of the glitch to take more grocery that they were allowed to have with their EBT limits, wrote KSLA-TV.
