Walmart is planning more than 20,000 in-store parties at its locations as part of its "Rock This Christmas" theme.

"We are investing in [stores] this year more than we ever have," Walmart CMO Tony Rogers said, CNBC reported. "It's the most we've done in stores."

Some parties will feature printed catalogs and stickers for young shoppers to mark items on their wish lists, USA Today reported. Toys will also be available to play with in stores during the parties, which are intended to help parents decide what to purchase. Santa Claus will also be available for pictures at some parties.

Later parties will focus on entertaining and popular gifts for people of all ages, Fortune reported.

The trend toward an in-store emphasis is continued from last year, when Walmart brought in "holiday helpers" and held more live toy demonstrations for kids and parents during the holiday shopping season, CNBC reported. Walmart will add even more holiday helpers this year to guide customers to checkout lines, open more checkout lines during peak hours, and fetch items from other parts of the store.

Online selection will also be tripled this year, and more customers are expected to order items online and pick them up in stores than last year, e-commerce division chief revenue officer Scott Hilton said, CNBC reported.

Walmart is second only to Amazon in toy sales, USA Today reported. Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in September but is expected to remain a major player in the toy market.

Not all Twitter users thought the parties were a good idea.
