A waiter shared on social media a sweet letter of apology he received from four 13-year-old girls he had recently served as they celebrated homecoming, and the note included a far better tip than the $3.28 they had left, Delish reported.
The teens were grabbing a bite before the affair and the waiter, identified only as Seminole, said he went out of his way to ensure they got great service because he remembered how exciting his first school dances were, Metro reported.
Nearly two weeks had passed and Seminole had forgotten about the crumby tip when he received a letter apologizing for the relatively small amount they left compared to the size of the tab.
"Dear Mr Waiter," the letter read, according to Live, Play, Eat.
"My three friends and I came to eat at this restaurant as our own homecoming celebration. It was an exciting experience for us to be here alone, and it was all new to us. And you were the best waiter we could ask for."
The letter went on to praise Seminole for being "kind, helpful, accommodating," and for not treating the group like "babies" but instead making their "grown-up experience so amazing and fun."
The letter then apologized for the tip.
“Our 13-year-old minds didn’t exactly know how to deal with the bill," it read.
"You were super helpful in dividing the check up and taking our not-so-preferable cash. The bill was reasonable, but we had completely forgotten (and frankly didn’t know) what a tip even was, let alone how much to give."
Only later did the teens realize that they had tipped too little and knew they “had to make it right." An accompanying envelop contained enough cash to being the tip to 18 percent.
Seminole shared the letter to image-sharing site Imgur, saying that he had "been serving a long time, and nothing like this has ever happened to me, or anyone," per Metro.
