More than 800 Virginia teens are fixing homes as part of an annual WorkCamp project by the Catholic Diocese of Arlington that includes over 100 different projects.

This is the 29th year for the seven-day WorkCamp that will be based out of Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg, WUSA9 reported.

Among the many projects, students will replace a disabled man’s roof and paint the house and weatherproof windows for a single father of six, WUSA9 reported.

“Whenever I feel like I need someone’s help and someone helps me it always feels really good, and so when someone else is in trouble, I mean, I want to be there for them too,” Stephen O’Donnell said of his participation in the project, NBC4 reported.

“I really just wanted to make somebody’s day,” volunteer Michael Pugsley told NBC4. “I know some people are less fortunate in the world.”

Participants raised money to buy the supplies for fixing the homes and to rent the space to sleep at the nearby high school, NBC4 reported.

The recipients of the teens’ generosity are appreciative.

“They could be at the beach, they could be sleeping, they could be playing games, but they come here for us,” Betty Tucker said, NBC4 reported. “I’m just humbled.”

LocalDVM.com reported 30 percent of Virginia residents volunteer in some capacity.
