Victoria McGrath, who survived her Boston Marathon bombing injuries in 2013, was killed in an auto accident in Dubai with her college roommate, months from graduating from Northeastern University, according to the Boston Globe.

McGrath was a bystander at the marathon and a photo or her being carried away from the finish line area by firefighter James Plourde became one of the enduring images of the tragedy in April 2013.

McGrath, 23, and Priscilla Perez Torres were among four prople in a yellow Ferrari when it crashed into a pole. Canadian boxer Cody Nixon was thought to be the driver, the Globe reported.

Al Arabiya English said the accident happened close to Dubai's Jumeirah Lake Towers at about 12:40 a.m. local time Sunday, citing Col. Saif Muhair al-Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police. The website said all four passengers were thrown from the car on impact and died from their injuries.

The Globe said it appeared that Nixon had rented the Ferrari hours before the crash, but other details about the accident were not available.

McGrath was expected to graduate from Northeastern University's school of business in May, according to Us Weekly.

"Victoria and Priscilla were vibrant, beloved members of our community, and their passing leaves a grievous absence in our community and in our hearts," Northeastern University president Joseph E. Aoun said in a statement.

Brooke Hynes, a public affairs official at Tufts Medical Center, where McGrath was treated after the marathon, remembered the college student fondly, said Boston.com.

"Her personality (and) her sparkle were amazing during the whole marathon bombing crisis," Hynes said. "She was wonderfully smart and had a passion for life and people loved talking with her, being with her, and caring for her."

Many expressed their condolences on social media.
