An elementary school student who was bullied for his homemade University of Tennessee shirt has inspired an official apparel design. The university announced the news upon hearing the young Vols fan's story on social media.

It was his teacher, Laura Snyder from Altamonte Springs, Florida, who initially brought light to the situation in a Facebook post that went viral.

She explained how the unnamed student desperately wanted to wear an official University of Tennessee shirt for the school's college colors day but was disappointed because he did not have one.

Together they decided that he could wear an orange shirt. In the days leading up to the school’s collegiate day, the boy kept telling his teacher how excited he was about the shirt.

When the day arrived, he proudly walked into class with the shirt, which even featured a homemade label made from a piece of paper. However, his excitement was short-lived.

During lunch break, a group of girls teased him about the homemade shirt.

"He was DEVASTATED," Snyder wrote in her post. "I know kids can be cruel, I am aware that it’s not the fanciest sign, BUT this kid used the resources he had available to him to participate in a spirit day."

Determined to get her student his own shirt, Snyder appealed to her Facebook followers for assistance. It was not long before the University of Tennessee heard about the story and reached out to the boy.

Not only did he receive an entire box packed with official merchandise, the University of Tennessee also announced that his design will be used for an official school shirt.

"When I told him that his design was being made into a real shirt and people wanted to wear it, his jaw dropped," Snyder wrote on Facebook. She said her student had inspired and touched the lives of so many other people. "This experience is uniting my class even more than I could have imagined, and it was truly amazing to witness."
