A United Express jet caught fire after landing at Denver International Airport on a flight from Aspen Sunday afternoon, but passengers and crew escaped without injury.
The SkyWest Airlines plane, flying under the United Express umbrella, started having engine trouble shortly after landing but before reaching its gate, KDVR-TV reported. An airlines representative said 59 passengers and four crew members were on board at the time.
The incident happened about 2:15 p.m. Sunday and the cause of the fire remained unknown Sunday, KUSA-TV reported.
"The passengers were actually taken on a bus back to the concourse," Denver International Airport spokesperson Heath Montgomery said, according to the television station. "Part of what we do, is we assist the airlines in getting the passengers back to a safe place."
All the runways at Denver International remained open and the fire did not affect airport operations, KUSA reported.
Some posted photos of the evacuation and burning airplane engine on social media.
Denver International is the sixth busiest airport in the United States and 18th busiest in the world, servicing 58.3 million passengers in 2016, according to study released in April by Airports Council International.
Denver trailed only Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York in terms of passenger volume, according the ACI annual report.
