A U-Haul truck-police chase in downtown Los Angeles ended at a busy downtown produce market as the driver ran into several vehicles before trying to escape on foot, KABC-TV reported.

Police spotted a reported stolen U-Haul about 10 a.m. near 61st Street and Broadway and the chase moved to downtown over the next 20 minutes, the television station said.

KTLA-TV reported that a woman driving the U-Haul weaved in and out of traffic to avoid hitting cars, but crashed into at least one. At one point, the suspect drove on the wrong side of the road and squeezed in between other vehicles in traffic to evade police, the television station said.

The truck ended up at the market near Eighth Street and Central Avenue, KABC-TV wrote.

The suspect managed to turn the truck around to escape by crashing into nearby vehicles and damaged three patrol cars, KABC-TV said. The suspect eventually exited the vehicle near the market and ran into a business where police followed and captured her.

The suspect appeared to shout at police, resisting officers as they attempted to place her in a police cruiser, the Los Angeles Times reported. The newspaper said that a video showed officers placing a "spit sock" around her mouth and restraints on her hands and legs.

"She was not having a good day," Los Angeles Police Officer Drake Madison told the Times.

Authorities said the woman will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to the KABC-TV. She was initially taken to a hospital for evaluation.

"This is a very congested area," Los Angeles Police Lt. Chris Ramirez told KABC-TV. "There's a lot of moving parts in there, there's a lot of produce being moved around, a lot of employees, workers and heavy trucks, so it's a very tight and confined space."
