President Donald Trump was visiting Las Vegas on Wednesday as the city continued to recover from the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

"In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one," Trump has said about the tragedy. "We call upon the bonds that unite us – our faith, our family, and our shared values. We call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community, and the comfort of our common humanity."

Trump’s visit comes as the debate over gun-control started to emerge again, but the president wasn’t expected to address the issue on the trip, USA Today reported.

"With this investigation still in its early phases, we should avoid making sweeping policy decisions," a White House official told Politico.

Fifty-nine people were killed and 527 injured in Las Vegas Sunday night when a gunman, identified as Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a music festival crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, ABC News reported.

Trump suggested on Tuesday that talk about gun laws would not be a top priority during his visit Wednesday, Fox News said.

"Look, we have a tragedy," Trump told reporters, per Fox News. "What happened [in Las Vegas] is, in many ways, a miracle. The police department, they've done such an incredible job. And we’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes on."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Trump to address the issue, per Fox News.

"President Trump, before he ran for office, was for certain sane, rational, limited aspects of gun control," Schumer said Tuesday. "Maybe he can have a bit of a reawakening because of the horror of what happened as he goes to Las Vegas tomorrow."
