President-elect Donald Trump is already planning for his 2020 re-election campaign and he shared the slogan during an interview with The Washington Post.
“Keep America Great,” Trump told Karen Tumulty. He then called his lawyers in right away to start working on trademarking the phrase, both with and without an exclamation point, The Washington Post reported.
Trump seemed “gleeful” about the prospect of more campaigning, the Post said, noting it’s only a matter of time before the slogan turns up on the signature red hats that were so popular during his first campaign.
The president-elect told the Post he hadn’t intended to reveal the slogan yet, but that he was supremely confident he would be able to deliver on his campaign promises.
“I am so confident that we are going to be [great again],” Trump told the Post. “If I was like, ambiguous about it, if I wasn’t sure about what is going to happen — the country is going to be great.”
In several interviews given in the lead-up to Friday’s inauguration, Trump revealed he is still deciding whether to continue investigating Hillary Clinton, and said that he preferred not to be on Twitter but feels he has no choice when the media is “very dishonest,” according to Yahoo News.
He also said he would give world leaders like Germany’s Angela Merkel and Russia’s Vladimir Putin an even chance in his dealings with them until he has had experience on which to base his impressions.
