Trevor Graves was arrested and accused of cheating in a high-tech scheme that allowed him to alter his grades at the University of Iowa over 90 times.

The 22-year-old former student and wrestler allegedly hacked into the university's grading and email system and changed his grades for himself and his classmates, Naked Security reported.

The scheme used keyloggers plugged into the university computers to track sensitive information logged in by Graves' professors, including their credentials to log into university systems. Once in, Graves could obtain advanced copies of tests and alter his grades.

The New York Times reported that the student did this more than 90 times over 21 months and also adjusted test results for at least five other students.

The scheme was initiated in March 2015 and continued until December 2016, when an instructor noticed a number of Graves' grades had been altered without her authorization and alerted campus IT security officials.

In January the university issued a warning to its faculty, staff and students of the breach.

A spokesperson from the university told CBS News that investigations were being conducted "after a faculty member discovered a student's grade had been changed without the faculty member's authorization."

"The investigation shows someone attached unauthorized devices to university instructional computers to capture instructor ID's and passwords. A few students appear to have then used the passwords to change their grades in select courses," the statement further read.

Citing court documents, the New York Daily News reported that investigators conducted a full sweep of Graves' off-campus apartment in Iowa, where they recovered keyloggers, cellphones and thumb drives.

Graves was arrested on Tuesday in Denver and was released on bond pending a court appearance on Thursday in Iowa.
