A tour bus accident on a California interstate highway killed 13 casino players headed back to Los Angeles on Sunday morning.  Of 31 people injured in the crash, four remained in critical condition.

The bus crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer near Palm Springs on I-10 while it was returning from the Red Earth Casino near the Salton Sea, reported Reuters.

Trauma surgeon Dr. Ricard Townsend said many of those injured suffered from trauma to the face, said USA Today.

An emergency official told reporters the truck's trailer was pushed about 15 feet into the front of the bus. He said the accident was believed to have been caused by the bus  traveling “significantly faster” than the tractor-trailer, said Reuters.

“It was a substantial impact,” he said.

The bus reportedly had been inspected back in April and no problems were found.

The crash was being called one of the deadliest in California.

In April 2014, 10 people were killed in a crash after a FedEx tractor-trailer slammed into a bus that was carrying high school students on their way to a college visit.
