A 2-year-old Akron, Ohio, toddler was found "frozen" to death on the front porch of the home where she lived Friday afternoon, raising questions about why she was out in the cold alone.

According to WKYC, police said the child wandered outside when she was left at home with her father for about two hours and he fell asleep during that time.

The girl's mother discovered her outside and called 911, where a dispatcher walked her through giving CPR, WKYC reported. The girl was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine cause of death.

Neighbor Crystal Lucas told Fox 8 she had seen the toddler and another boy that lived in the house outside alone in the past.

“I’ve had to take the baby home because she’ll be outside playing . . . it was a few times that I had to take both of her kids home,” Lucas said.

“It’s just a very sad situation, it literally broke my heart,” she added.

Other neighbors also said they heard arguing outside the apartment on several occasions, Fox 8 reported.

It was between 12 and 19 degrees in Akron on Friday.

“I cried because I just don’t understand how a two year old could be outside and you not know,” Lucas told Fox 8.

Twitter users were heartbroken by the story.
