Tina Fey is returning to “SNL” as host to open the show’s 39th season on Sept. 28, NBC announced Monday.
The New York Times noted that “the choice of Ms. Fey, who starred on 'SNL' for a decade, to headline the season premiere means a sure hand will be leading the cast, which is adding a raft of new members this season.”
Longtime cast members
Bill Hader, Jason Sudekis and Fred Armisen have left the show.
Fey will be joined by musical guest Arcade Fire.
But it’s who’s following Fey that is sure to raise eyebrows. NBC also announced Monday that Miley Cyrus will host the second show just weeks after her
raunchy appearance on MTV’s Video Music Awards production.
Bruce Willis is set to host the third episode, on Oct. 5, which will feature musical guest Katy Perry.
E! Online reports that Lady Gaga is going to make her hosting debut later this season.
This will mark Fey’s fourth time hosting the show since she left the cast in 2006.
Social networking sites were buzzing with the news of SNL’s lineup.
“Guys….I CANT WAIT,” tweeted @dakotaalyse.
“Tina Fey and Arcade Fire together for the @nbcsnl premiere? Yes please,” tweeted @s_constantine92.
“We’re so excited to have #TinaFey back for the premiere!! Brownie Husbands for everyone!” tweeted the official "Saturday Night Live" Twitter account, @nbcsnl, in referring to a classic Fey skit in which the actress gets amorous with a huge giant brownie husband.
“Tina Fey hosting the season premiere of SNL is legitimately the only reason I would tune in,” tweeted @Steve_Scully.
Fey worked on "SNL" from 1997-2006, first as a writer, and then starred on the NBC comedy series “30 Rock.”
