Times Square was partially evacuated Saturday night after a suspicious box truck was left unattended at a bus stop.

The rental truck was left at 46th Street and Seventh Avenue with keys still in the ignition. There were unusual looking wires extending from its dashboard, and gas canisters placed behind the seats, The New York Times reported.

The area was evacuated for about 40 minutes while the New York Police Department’s Critical Response Command investigated. They ultimately determined there was no threat.

Thousands of people were ushered behind barriers and nearby businesses were locked down as a precaution, Reuters reported.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Ryan Frasier of Queens, was taken in for questioning and released Sunday morning with a ticket, CBS New York reported.

The box truck was parked near two theaters and the Marriott Marquis hotel. It was initially reported that the audience of the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton," currently playing at the Richard Rodgers Theater, was evacuated to the basement during the scare, however a representative said the audience remained in their seats and that the performance commenced at 8:30 p.m. with a go-ahead from the police.

The driver received 10 summonses for such violations as failing to register the truck, and is due in court on June 3, the New York Daily News reported.

Twitter users had a lot to say about the disruption.
