Cage-fighting former Special Forces soldier Tim Kennedy responded bluntly to credible-sounding online threats from ISIS: "Let those cowards come."
Daring the Islamic State to come and get him can't hurt his gig as a UFC mixed martial arts fighter, unless maybe the jihadists take him up on it.
Kennedy wrote on his
Facebook page on Wednesday that the FBI wasn't happy with the way he is handling the threats.
"They were not overly thrilled with my response … 'Let those cowards come,'" said Kennedy, later adding, "They can send whoever they want, as long as they don't want them back."
Kennedy previously served in the 7th Special Forces Group and today is a sergeant first class with the Texas National Guard, said the
Army Times. He told the newspaper he usually gets five to 10 threats daily through his social media accounts.
Many he dismisses as "military trolls," Kennedy told the Times, but a few have seemed credible. The FBI contacted him recently, he said, to make him aware that they believed some of the recent threats were something to be concerned about.
"What’s the definition of terrorism?" Kennedy said to the Times. "It's to achieve an objective through the use of force and fear. These are just nasty, evil, disgusting human beings who disrespect human life. I teach people how to live with threats like this. Who would I be to be cowering to a bunch of gutless cowards acting like a bunch of tough guys online?"
Many reached out online in support of Kennedy, almost daring ISIS to send someone after the UFC fighter.
"Tim Kennedy is one the most humble bad asses to ever don a green beret...while he carries extraordinary confidence he is far from the cocky A-holes you see in pro sports these days...ISIS would be foolish to F*ck with this man...it would not be a fair fight and would not end well for the degenerates raising a hand against him or his family...Tim would smoke the fools with a smile on his face and pray for they souls after the fact," one man wrote on FB.
"In the world of bad ideas, this has got to be at the top. Deciding to target a ex Green Beret turned UFC fighter shows a failure of target selection, and some seriously piss poor decision making skills all around," another man said on FB.
