So President Obama doesn’t sing in the shower after all — teenage girls around America must be crushed.
The New York Times was fooled into thinking that Obama had appeared on the cover of the iconic girls’ magazine, Tiger Beat, complete with the headline “Barack: ‘I Sing in the Shower + More Personal Facts.”
The mock mag , supposedly printed in July 2007 when Obama’s campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination was just heating up, also promised a “Giant Obama Poster Inside,”
Media Bistro reports.
But it was all a fake. The cover, putting Obama’s smiling face next to more likely teen headlines such as “The Jonas Brothers: How to Tell if They’re Crushing on You,” and “Cody: My First Kiss” was a mock-up produced by the satirical website The Onion.
Now in what is being called the “best NYT correction ever,” the paper has had to admit it was duped.
“A series of pictures last Sunday of covers of the magazine Tiger Beat, with an article about how the original teen-girl tabloid has remained virtually unchanged since its inception in 1965, erroneously included a parody cover, produced by the satiric newspaper The Onion, that featured a picture of President Obama.”
