Is Tiger Woods Back? It's the Hot Question in Wake of 75th PGA Tour Win

Tiger Woods earned his 75th PGA Tour victory Monday by winning the Farmers Insurance Open at California's Torrey Pines Golf Course for the seventh time, cementing what some sports writers are calling a "resurrection" in his career.

At a post-tournament news conference, reporters asked the question on everyone's mind: Are you back?

"Never left," Woods said.

Woods won by a comfortable four strokes and collected the winner's share of $1.098 million, despite Friday's drenching rain that threw many of his competitors off their game. But that's exactly what Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Dwyre argues has helped Woods overcome his recent winless streak: his "uninterruptable" focus and trademark determination.

"Friday's round was played in drenching rain. It never let up long enough for anybody, spectator or player, to find relief from being wet and miserable," Dwyre wrote in his column. "Players went from sweaters to short-sleeve windbreakers to the kind of Gore-Tex rain suits usually needed only during the monsoon major they play every year, also known as the British Open. Woods? He played all the way in a sweater and brushed away that sort of Arctic hardiness with a sniff."

Woods, 37, is one of the most successful professional golfers of all time, but his last major win was the 2008 U.S. Open. He took a leave of absence from Dec. 2009 to April 2010, after a highly-publicized early morning auto accident and his admission to infidelity, which made him a media spectacle. Woods ended a 924-day victory drought by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational March 25.

Nick Faldo, whose six major titles and 98 weeks as No. 1 player in the world landed him his role as a television analyst, summed up Woods' weekend.

"This is his way of sending a message to the golf world and the other players," Faldo told the Los Angeles Times. "He's back."
