"Thursday Night Football" will air on Fox beginning in the 2018 season in an agreement moving the series from CBS and NBC and announced on Wednesday by the NFL and Fox Sports.

Fox Sports will broadcast "Thursday Night Football" for five years in a deal that includes 11 games from Week 4 through Week 15. The package excludes traditional Thanksgiving Day games.

ESPN reported that CBS had paid $37.5 million per game for eight games during the 2014 and 2015 seasons and that NBC joined CBS to broadcast five games each at a cost of $45 million for the past two seasons.

ESPN also reported that the new Fox Sports deal values each game at an average of more than $60 million.

"This agreement is the culmination of over 10 years of strategic growth around 'Thursday Night Football,' a period during which this property has grown from a handful of late season games on NFL Network to a full season of games and one of the most popular shows on broadcast television with additional distribution via cable and digital channels," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said.

"As one of the leaders in sports television and a recognized innovator of NFL game broadcasts for many years, we're excited to be extending our partnership with Fox Sports, one of our most trusted and valued partners, to include 'Thursday Night Football.'"

ESPN also reported that Fox Sports will also receive expanded digital highlight rights as part of the deal and that Amazon paid $50 million this past season to stream the games on Amazon Prime, an increase from the $10 million Twitter paid in 2016.

"Football is in our blood at Fox and we understand that nothing beats the NFL when it comes to television that captures people's attention," said Peter Rice, president of 21st Century Fox.

"Our historic relationship with the NFL dates back to the earliest days of Fox, and we couldn't be more excited to expand our deep and enduring partnership to include primetime games on Thursday night."
