'Thriller' Woman Ola Ray Releases 'Remember' As MJ Death Anniversary Nears

By    |   Friday, 21 June 2013 06:45 PM EDT

Remember Ola Ray? She’d like to remind you that she was the singer and actress who played Michael Jackson’s love interest in his "Thriller" video.

Just in case the details have gotten fuzzy over the past 30 years, Ray has put together a music video of her own called "Remember," featuring her current 52-year-old beautiful and bold self singing and dancing, interspersed with clips from the old Jackson hit.

“This project has been a year in the making,” Ray said in a statement reported by Yahoo! Music. “I am very happy to have finished it in time for Michael Jackson’s 4th year anniversary passing. I hope everyone will enjoy.”

In the original “Thriller” video, Jackson plays himself watching a movie at a theater with his girlfriend, played by Ray. On the movie screen, a character also played by Jackson turns into a growling werewolf and chases down the girlfriend, also played by Ray, leaving her breathless and terrified on the ground. In this video, Ray sports a prim fifties look, wearing a skirt pouffed out with crinolines and a white kerchief that makes her resemble a nun.

In Ray’s new video, she’s all grown up and sports several racy outfits, including a see-through white number and a low-cut black leotard and black skinny pants.

Though she achieved international fame in the “Thriller” video, Ray began her singing and dancing career back in the late '70s in Tokyo, where her military dad was stationed and she formed a troupe with her twin brothers and sister, Yahoo! Music reports.

Their group, the Puppets, landed a CBS Records deal, and Ray also secured modeling jobs in Japan and became "Playmate of the Month" after returning to the United States. Then came "Thriller" in 1982.

Though “Remember” pays homage to Jackson, things weren’t always rosy between the two. Ray sued Jackson and his production company, MJM, over money she was owed from “Thriller” in May 2009, a month before the singer’s death. She received $55,000 when the suit was settled in January, TMZ reports.
