'Thor: Ragnarok' First Trailer a Hulking Success for Marvel Fans

The first trailer for "Thor: Ragnarok" was released Monday, giving eager fans a peek at Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god, the return of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and franchise newcomers Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum.

That's not even mentioning the armored Hulk, whom Thor describes in a battle scene as his "friend from work."

In what has been billed as Marvel's movie that will set up the plot for the all-superheroes blockbuster "Avengers: Infinity War" in May 2018, there are some differences between the new film and the past two "Thor" movies.

"The first trailer for 'Thor: Ragnarok' hit the Internet Monday, and it's full of what the first two movies about the god of Thunder were missing: Jokes, Cate Blanchett and Led Zeppelin," wrote Kelly Lawler for USA Today.

"Thor has new friends, a new sense of humor and a new haircut in the new movie. Anyone exhausted by a seemingly endless parade of dark and brooding superheroes will be happy to know that the latest 'Thor' installment looks both hilarious and brightly colored, from Jeff Goldblum's blue lipstick to Loki's shiny new gold antlers," she continued.

David Betancourt of The Washington Post said the rumble between Thor and the Hulk has been anticipated since news broke that the big green guy would make an appearance in the movie.

"The trailer ends with Thor and the Hulk running toward each other, fists clinched and ready to pulverize," Betancourt wrote. "So anticipated is this matchup that in this first trailer, we hear nothing from (although we see them for a second) Loki (Tom Hiddleston) or Heimdall (Idris Elba).

"The Thor/Loki good brother/evil brother love-to-hate-each-other relationship between has always been the highlight of the 'Thor' movie franchise. While it looks to be taking a slight back seat to the Thor/Hulk showdown, Loki being around assures there will be plenty of brotherly mischief. And Loki’s probably got his money on the Hulk," he continued.

Fans shared their excitement about the new trailer on social media.
