"The Walking Dead" TV series, one of the most-watched cable shows ever, will be coming back to life for its fourth season on AMC on Sunday.

Based on the Robert Kirkman comic book series by the same name, the show follows a group of survivors in the rural South who, in a post-apocalyptic world, fight off flesh-eating zombies while attempting to build a new life for themselves.

The extremely popular show concluded season three in March, setting a record for most-watched drama series telecast in basic cable history, with 12.4 million viewers, Entertainment Weekly reported.

When we last left the diverse group of survivors, they had defeated a significantly larger rival community that threatened their existence, led by a complex villain known as "The Governor."

In the season four preview trailer, featured below, the primary group of survivors have apparently absorbed members from the community that was once their enemy thereby expanding their numbers to approximately 50 people, up from about a dozen previously.

The trailer seems to suggest a group strained by growing pains as it battles the relentless threat posed from wandering zombies across the countryside while simultaneously battling an apparent traitor from within, who is working to destroy the fragile existence they have carved out for themselves.

Other subplots that appear to carry over from the previous season is the continued uncertainty of whether or not the show's protagonist, Sheriff Rick Grimes, is able to maintain his sanity and leadership over the group.

Also, the former prison that the group converted into an encampment appears to be coming apart, with more and more zombies apparently testing the perimeter, pushing in fences and finding ways into the core of the prison, originally believed to be sealed from the outside.

The premiere comes weeks after AMC put to bed their hit show "Breaking Bad," with the series finale airing the Sunday before last. The final installment of "Breaking Bad" garnered 10.3 million viewers, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"The Walking Dead" trailer leaves us with the group apparently breaking up, with some members fleeing the prison for their own survival as we hear over a CB radio an unknown woman talking of a sanctuary saying, "Those who arrive, survive."
