The Void's "Ghostbusters" experience will open at Time Square's Madame Tussauds in New York City on July 1, giving fans of the movie franchise a virtual reality preview to the awaited cinema reboot, reported Rolling Stone magazine.

"Ghostbusters: Dimension" will be an 85,000-square-foot attraction in which fans can hunt and capture a "paranormal villain" hiding in a New York apartment complex.

It will open just before the new female-led "Ghostbusters," starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, hits theaters July 15.

The Void, an immersive tech firm, released a video about the Madame Tussauds attraction on Monday.

"Brace yourself for the Ghostbustin' experience of a lifetime complete with spooks in multiple scenes that are true to the film," says the Madame Tussauds website. "Featuring state-of-the-art technology that'll inspire awe from even the most veteran of tech junkies, authentic props from the film, special effects to complete the environment, figures of the 2016 spirit hunter crew and more."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, each visitor will wear a virtual reality head set and be given a proton pack, which would allow them to "hunt ghosts" in the virtual environment. The Void created the attraction with "Ghostbusters" creator Ivan Reitman, Sony Pictures, and director Paul Feig.

"We all had the same goal — to create the most authentic 'Ghostbusters' experience possible," Curtis Hickman, president of Void Studios said on the company's website. "We're using the same sounds, 3D models, and textures from the film to recreate a world where you'll struggle to capture ghosts and cause an unbelievable amount of damage."

Reitman said he believed the use of virtual reality was one of the best ways to engage fans.

"The technology is breathtaking, the experience is thrilling, and what better way is there to use VR, than to let audiences inhabit the stories they love."
