A wildfire in the panhandle of Texas that began late Sunday afternoon has
killed one person and burned dozens of homes, KFDA-TV reported.
According to the Amarillo Globe-News, the fire destroyed 131 structures, most of which were a mix of mobile and traditional homes in the Lake Meredith Harbor subdivision in Fritch, about 30 northeast of Amarillo.

More than 1,000 residents from the area were evacuated Sunday night and likely won’t be allowed until Tuesday morning at the earliest, according to Fritch Police Chief Monte Leggett.
KFDA-TV reported that the fire was out as of Monday afternoon, but crews are still fighting hotspots.
One person died of a heart attack during the fire, however it's unclear if this is the same person that did reportedly die as a result of the fire.
More than 25 different fire departments in a 165-mile radius responded to the blaze. A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“It’s really bad,” Danny Richards, Hutchinson County emergency management coordinator, told the Amarillo Globe-News. “It looks like a war zone. It’s a disaster.”
