Teresa Lentz Found Safe in Virginia After Going Missing From Maryland

By    |   Thursday, 27 June 2013 07:08 AM EDT

Teresa Lentz, the missing 49-year-old Frederick County, Md. woman who went missing last Wednesday, June 19, was found alive Tuesday night in Spotsylvania County, Va.

The mother of two reportedly went out to run errands and no one heard from her for days.

Family members began worrying about her whereabouts in the late afternoon when she did not respond to texts or calls to her cell phone, MyFoxDC.com reported.

Lentz's 2000 blue Ford Expedition SUV was found near railroad tracks the night of June 19, where authorities found her keys, cell phone, and other personal belongings.

It is unclear how Lentz went missing, but local resident Michael McAleer told police that at around 6 p.m. on the night of her disappearance, he remembered seeing a man behind the wheel of her SUV.

"I guess it was 10 of 6 [p.m.] last night, we saw it sitting there," McAleer told MyFoxDC.com. "I'm pretty positive I saw a man sitting in the driver's seat and I didn't think anything of it."

McAleer's observation was one of dozens authorities say they heard from residents after she disappeared.

Maryland State Police initiated a search of the area with local deputies last Wednesday night, employing K-9 units on the ground and aviation support, but were unsuccessful.

Family members told MyFoxDC.com that they had no reason to believe Lentz would travel without telling them first.

Describing her as a "rock" that held the family together, Lentz's relatives spoke to reporters in a press conference last week.

"This has been so overwhelming for my family," said Lentz's daughter Shawna. "She's my everything, she's my rock, and for her not to be here is just heartbreaking for me."

Sergeant Jennifer Bailey of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office discussed their investigation at the press conference.

"We are considering this to be a suspicious missing person and we're not ruling out anything," Bailey said. "We're not at this point saying foul play is involved but we do consider the circumstances to be very suspicious."

The last known image of Lentz was taken at a drive-thru ATM machine on the afternoon she went missing.
