A teen drowned in the shower while getting ready for school Friday morning in Pennsylvania in a tragic accident that has shocked friends and family, according to reports.

Brianne Rapp, a 17-year-old junior at Butler Area Senior High School, may have blacked out and fallen, her hair clogging the drain and the tub overflowing, her father, Michael Rapp, told KDKA-TV, explaining that the teen was taking medication for a thyroid condition and has blacked out before.

He learned of his daughter's death from his ex-wife, Kimberly Schultz, who was still sleeping when the accident occurred.

"She was hysterical on the phone and she told me she was gone. I thought maybe she ran away or something. I didn’t realize she meant she passed away," Rapp told the station.

An official cause of death hasn't been released.

"I’ll miss her smiling face and her great personality and wanting the best out of life," Rapp told KDKA-TV. "Her mother and I are so proud to have raised a girl that people have so many nice things to say."

A GoFundMe account set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses had raised about $11,000 by Tuesday afternoon. According to the website, any money left over would go toward a college fund for Brianne Rapp's 12-year-old brother, Tyler, and 4-year-old sister, Maddy.

"My daughter was the heart and soul to so many of her friends," Michael Rapp wrote on the GoFundMe page. "She always put everyone else first. I, her father and Kimberly, her mother would like to put our daughter first for once to say our final goodbyes! Thank you for all who helps out it is greatly appreciated!"

He wrote that he was paralyzed in a "freak accident" two months ago.

Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, according to Brianne Rapp's obituary in the Butler Eagle.
