A teacher had a student's baby, according to investigators in California, leading to her arrest. Laura Whitehurst, a California high school teacher who gave birth last month to a baby allegedly fathered by one of her underage students was arrested Monday night.
Whitehurst, 28, taught English at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, Calif. She gave birth June 18 to a baby police say was fathered by a male pupil who was 16 at the time of conception.

The two reportedly carried on a relationship for nearly a year until the victim's mother contacted the school district Monday and reported it. The district then notified police.
"One thing led to another, and he ended up at her residence, and it's been going on for approximately one year now,"
Redlands police Cmdr. Shawn Ryan told NBCLosAngeles.com. "She was open with her pregnancy. I don't know what her story was to everybody else, but it was an open pregnancy. The school district knew about it."
Whitehurst was arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. She was released after posting $25,000 bail and is expected to appear in court within 45 to 90 days.
Sabine Robertson-Phillips, the district's assistant superintendent of human resources, said Whitehurst has been placed on leave and is barred from school property.
"Nothing is as important to us as the safety of our students, and the
district takes this arrest very seriously," Robertson-Philips told the Redland Daily Facts. "We are fully cooperating with police in their investigation of this matter. Because we don't want to jeopardize the ongoing investigation, we don't want to comment further at this time."
