Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Most Lucrative Ever

By    |   Monday, 09 December 2024 11:49 AM EST

Pop icon Taylor Swift's Eras tour became the most commercially successful tour of all-time, raking in over $2 billion in ticket sales for 149 shows.

The New York Times reported that the final revenue tally was $2,077,618,725. The record was previously held by Elton John, whose Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour earned $939 million in 330 shows, according to The Guardian.

Swift's Eras concerts were over 3½ hours and included songs from all of her albums. Despite the intense tour schedule, she managed to write and record her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department," which was released in April and featured in her later tour dates.

Tickets for the tour averaged $204 each. When they went on sale in November 2022, Ticketmaster's system crashed. The chaos sparked a U.S. Senate hearing, where lawmakers scrutinized Ticketmaster's parent company, Live Nation, accusing it of holding a monopoly in the ticketing industry.

London's Wembley Stadium drew the largest total audience of the tour, welcoming 753,112 fans for eight performances. While in the U.K., during the 100th stop of the tour in Liverpool, Swift first announced that the tour would be coming to an end Dec. 8.

"That blows my mind," she said of the show marking the 100th tour stop, according to CNN. "That doesn't feel like a real statistic to me because this has definitely been the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life."

Swift shared with her fans that celebrating the 100th show meant it was "the very first time" she has had to acknowledge and admit to herself that the tour "is going to end in December."

"Like, that's it, and that feels like so far away from now, but then again it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour," she said.

"I think that this tour has really become my entire life," Swift said, adding that "it's taken over everything."
