Georgia lawmakers focused Monday on how to change the state’s tax structure in order to create jobs,
The Times of Gainesville reported Tuesday.
Monday was the first day of the second half of the 2011 legislative session.
Republican state Rep. Doug Collins of Gainesville proposed a tax credit of $1,750 for each job a new or expanding business creates in Georgia. The proposed bill is backed by Gov. Nathan Deal.

“We’re looking to encourage and help incentivize job creation, which really fits into what we need,” Collins told the newspaper. “It takes a long-term look at what we need and what the governor wanted to initiate for job creation.”
Other lawmakers introduced bills to remake the state’s tax code, including directly giving taxes on communications to local governments instead of funneling them through the state, granting tax credits for jobs created and capital investment, and new fiscal impact standards for any new proposed tax laws.
