Tara Reid and Ian Ziering have officially signed on to star in "Sharknado 2," the sequel to last summer's cult favorite about a tornado that rains down sharks on unsuspecting city dwellers.
Syfy executive president Thomas Vitale confirmed the spinoff, "Sharknado: The Second One," this week and said that filming will start in New York in February, with a premiere scheduled for July.
"By reassembling the creative team — and dropping sharks onto New York's iconic sites — we're unleashing yet another 'fin' wave of shark-mania," he said in a statement.

Vitale first announced a "Sharknado" sequel just a few weeks after the first one aired in July. The made-for-TV movie went viral, bringing in 5,000 tweets per minute.
"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm — on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that 'Sharknado 2' will be lots of fun," he said in a statement to reporters at the time.
Fans immediately took to Twitter to pitch their ideas for sequel subtitles and possible themes.
