Surge, a popular soda in the 1990s, is seeing a resurgence in sales this week as Coca-Cola put the discontinued drink on sale for a short time.
The drink is available only on Amazon.com.
“SURGE, which debuted in 1996 and was taken off the market in the early 2000s, is making a comeback thanks, in part, to a passionate and persistent community of brand loyalists who have been lobbying The Coca-Cola Company to bring back their favorite drink over the last few years,” a
Coca-Cola news release said. “SURGE is Coke’s first discontinued brand to return to the market.”

Those loyal fans took to the Internet to express their joy at the news, although many were disappointed that the soda sold out almost immediately. (Amazon is letting people sign up to be notified when it’s available again.)
A fan who signed on to
Amazon to preorder Surge wrote, “I just spent 45 dollars on soda and I’m not even mad.”
The enthusiasm just kept pouring out, with some fans apparently being very creative about their excitement:
“I am converting my 401k into Surge. I am gonna ride out this market.”
“My brother has been in a coma for 12 years. I whispered into his ear that they were bringing Surge back and he shot straight up, did a backflip out of bed and roundhouse kicked a nurse. The miracle is real. SUUUUUUURRRRRGGGGGEEEEE!”
“I was given the tragic news when I was young that Surge Soda was no longer available. I went through years of rehabilitation and therapy to forget this citrus beauty. Then I saw a light, I see on my Facebook that Surge is back...I turn in to Detective mode and find it's being sold on Amazon, just to find out that it's sold out. Here I am again, same place I was years back contemplating Mountain Dewicide.”
