Sen. Paul: SCOTUS Decision Will Galvanize Conservatives

Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, predicted Thursday that the Supreme Court ruling upholding Obamacare “will increase the adversarial role between the state and federal governments and between state governments and their taxpayers.”

The point of contention will be Medicaid, Paul told Newsmax.TV.

An unintended consequence of the Supreme Court decision is that states will continue facing additional Medicaid costs, said Paul.

“Medicaid is growing by leaps and bounds and the costs aren’t controlled,” he said. “It’s over utilized because it’s free. That’s a problem because with socialized medicine, no one makes consumer decisions — because it’s free.”

“Millions and millions of Americans will lose their private (health) insurance” because of Obamacare, Paul predicted. “They’ll be dumped into health-insurance exchanges or Medicaid. The Congressional Budget Office says 20 million people could be dumped into Medicaid. A private study says that number could be 50 million to 60 million people.”

The court ruling “really does do a disservice to the original interpretation of the Constitution,” he said. “It goes back to the FDR era, when there were no limitations to taxes and spending. This spending clause is a recipe for disaster. It’s a recipe for bankrupting our country.”

Regardless of the court’s decision, Paul still feels the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.

“I hope the tea party rallies begin to be energized again,” he said. “I hope they rise up and say, ‘No more.’

“This (decision) will galvanize conservatives. It will galvanize the conservative base to elect the conservative nominee. If you want to get rid of Obamacare,” Paul said, “you have a last chance in November.”
