The Sundance lineup for 2018 has been unveiled and it features a number of A-listers and Hollywood bigwigs, Entertainment Weekly noted.

Notably, the filmmaking efforts of Idris Elba and Ethan Hawke will be included amongst the 110 independent films from 29 countries highlighted at the prestigious event being held in January at Park City, Utah.

Elba will present the story of a Jamaican boy dealing with the aftermath of his brother's assassination in the production "Yardie," while Hawke's "Blaze" centers on the songwriter, Blaze Foley, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The upcoming edition of the Sundance Film Festival will cover a wide range of film genres but festival director John Cooper said per Variety that there was a notable move toward ongoing awareness "by audiences and the industry and the press — of the need for alternative voices and points of view in this medium."

Cooper noted that, while this has long been a hallmark of independent film, "it's really the increase in the number of personal stories [from those who didn't have a voice before] that we've noticed the most over the last couple of years as we program the festival."

Next year's event will present films from 47 first-time directors and will also see performances from more established stars such as Keira Knightley and Robert Pattinson in the premieres section, Variety said.

A key highlight to the festival, according to The Guardian, is the premiere of a documentary based on women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred.

The Netflix production, "Seeing Allred," takes a deeper look into the work of the attorney, who has represented clients fighting prominent figures such as Harvey Weinstein and Donald Trump.

"The film-makers did notify us that they were going to continue shooting to add to the documentary as all of the allegations were breaking," said Trevor Groth, the festival's Sundance director of programming, according to The Guardian. "So there is a real sort of timely quality to that film."

Entertainment Weekly noted that 2018's festival would feature a strong contingent of documentaries that explore the lives of influential figures including Jane Fonda in Susan Lacy's "Jane Fonda in Five Acts" and Robin Williams in Marina Zenovich's "Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind."

Summing up the 2018 edition of the Sundance Film Festival, Cooper said attendees can look forward to "stories about real people" and "not just biopics," Indiewire reported. "They're stories about struggle and art… looking at the world we live in in authentic ways, with a real point of view."
