New York Student Gains Admission to All 8 Ivy League Schools

A New York high school student who got into all eight Ivy League schools must now make a decision about where he will end up in the fall.

Kwasi Enin, a 17-year-old senior at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, N.Y., was recently granted admission to not one, but eight prestigious Ivy League colleges — Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

Well-rounded is an understatement when it comes to Enin. Not only did he score a 2,250 out of 2,400 on his SATs, a score that put him in the 99th percentile of all students who take the exam, but he's also an athlete, a member of the choir, and a musician.

"We are very proud of him," Ebenezer Enin, Kwasi's father, told Newsday. "He's an amazing kid. He's very humble. He's been trained to be a high achiever right from when he was a kid. We have been encouraging him to be an all-around student. So far, he has proved himself."

An aspiring physician, Enin also applied to and was granted admission at Duke University, Stony Brook University, SUNY Geneseo, and Binghamton University, according to Newsday.

"My heart skipped a beat when he told me he was applying to all eight," Nancy Winkler, a guidance counselor at Enin's high school, told USA Today, adding that she's never seen anything like it in her 29 years as a counselor. "It's a big deal when we have students apply to one or two Ivies. To get into one or two is huge. It was extraordinary."

Enin told Newsday he, too, was skeptical about getting into any of the Ivy League schools, let alone all of them, especially when the acceptance rate for some is so low (only 5.9 percent of those who apply to Harvard get in, for example).

"I was like — this can't be happening," he said.

Enin will make his final decision in the coming months based on financial aid packages available, he said.
